The Cable Guy

Weekly Alibi

DIRECTED BY: Ben Stiller

REVIEWED: 07-17-96

Jim Carrey gets a real director (Ben Stiller) and tries for a little darker role this time around. In this one he plays a demented cable TV installer who stalks one of his clients (Matthew Broderick). It's still just a paper-thin excuse to string together a bunch of Jim Carrey bits, but this time it works. The limited facial mugging and creepy black humor make this one of Carrey's most tolerable roles.
