Smilla's Sense of Snow

Weekly Alibi

DIRECTED BY: Bille August

REVIEWED: 03-19-97

Julia Ormond and Gabriel Byrne star in this adaption of Peter Hoeg's ridiculously popular novel. Fans of the book are likely to flock to this tale of a brooding female scientist who investigates the mysterious death of a neighbor boy. They're likely to be disappointed. Uninitiated folks who wander into the theater are likely to be confused by the rather silly mock-thriller plot involving high-tech intrigue, fallen meteorites and a whole hell of a lot of snow.
