The Street Fighter's Last Revenge

Weekly Alibi

DIRECTED BY: Shigehiro Ozawa

REVIEWED: 06-06-97

The third film in the incredible Street Fighter series is also the squirreliest of the bunch. I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. Devin O'Leary couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. We only knew that we loved it, and our praise for Sonny Chiba rang out across the city that night. This time around, Sonny occasionally dons "Mission Impossible"-style rubber masks, then runs around faking people out. He dances with a cute girl in a fancy club, and in mid-dance, slips into a mask and big vampire fangs! Why? Who can say? Such is the wonder of Sonny. A sexy Kung Fu girl falls for Sonny, hitting on him as he's about to get into his car. The two duke it out for a moment, then Chiba jumps into his car and splits, leaving the girl unsatisfied ("Stinker!" she cries). Mr. Black, a Kung Fu Mariachi (hat an' all), shoots laser beams from his hands and tries to kill Sonny. Some bad guys have audio tapes holding the formula for "synthetic heroin." Sonny steals one of the tapes and escapes by leaping through the ceiling. At one point, Sonny is even forced to kick his phone's ass! An absolute must-see. (New Line Home Video)
