Demi Moore puts the kibosh on any potential "comedy" this film may have had by playing the kooky heroine of the popular novel as a plucky "Norma Rae" type. Sadly, even the vaunted scenes in which Mrs. Moore doffs her duds are played as fleeting and uncomfortable. Actually makes one long for the days of Showgirls, which was at least honest about what it was selling.
