Trainspotting

Weekly Alibi

DIRECTED BY: Danny Boyle

REVIEWED: 07-31-96

Gritty/grotty tale of four heroin addicts/soccer hooligans in low-rent Scotland and their daily pursuit of nothing much. Director Danny Boyle(who gave us last year's zippy Shallow Grave) directs with a master's touch, filling the screen with energy and quirky visuals. Alternately a harrowingly honest portrait of drug addiction and an amazingly witty black comedy about the slacker generation. Not a pretty picture by any means, but an electric journey for the strong of stomach.
